Kyoshi Brad Ross and Brett Ryan were recently promoted in BJMA Progressive Krav Maga. Brad was graded to 5th degree Black Belt and Brett to Probationary Black Belt. They were tested over 20 hours of training during a three day stint in Toowoomba. The course instructors were Andrew Barram and Ben Coleman both serving Police Officers with the Northern Territory Police service. Andrew and Ben have trained extensively throughout the world with the highest Krav Maga instructors including Imi Lichtenfeld and Gerry Nolan.

Congratulations to Brett for attaining his first Black Belt and we know it won’t be the last.

At the recent State grading held in Toowoomba Kyoshi Brad Ross and Kyoshi Jim Friis were both promoted to 8th degree black belt by Soke Bob Jones. Soke Bob Jones awarded their new belts complete with English/Celtic writing during the Senjo ceremony in front of hundreds of martial artists and spectators.

I am truly humbled and honoured to be awarded this rare promotion by Soke Bob. It is now up to me to ensure I continue to increase my knowledge and to promote BJMA whilst upholding my values and behaving at all times with integrity.

Kyoshi Brad received his Brown Belt in BJJ at the recent State Camp from long time student/friend/coach Kyoshi Kyl Reber. Kyoshi Brad was instrumental to bringing BJJ into Zen Do Kai circles in Queensland starting back in 1995. 

Maryborough Martial Arts Academy students performed exceptional well at the recent BJMA State Grading. Over 170 people graded with many of our senior black belts getting promoted to probationary ranks ready for the Major State Grading in November. Congratulations to our newest Brown Belt – Dwight Wessling who is continuing to improve and will be looking to move into the black belt ranks. 

Maryborough Martial Arts Academy owners Kyoshi’s Brad and Bruce along with Sensei Matt provided an hour of free tuition in Hervey Bay at the GIVE 5 FOR KIDS charity. Over 50 people attended and all funds go to the local kids hospital wards. Kyoshi Brad ran a BJJ class followed by Kyoshi Bruce teaching Zen Do Kai principles. It was a great day and we hope to have a bigger role in next years event.

The Chief Instructor/owner is Kyoshi Brad Ross 7th degree black belt with over 26 years experience in the Martial Arts. Brad also holds a 6^th degree in BJC Muay Thai and is a purple belt in Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. Along with Brad’s martial arts qualifications he also holds a Bachelor of Education with a major in Physical Education.

Our other senior instructor is Bruce Maile with over 20 years experience in the Martial Arts. Bruce is currently a 6^th degree Black Belt in Zen Do Kai and a 5^th degree in BJC Muay Thai. Along with Bruce’s martial arts qualifications he is also a qualified electrician and co-owner of Arctic Cold a leading air-conditioning company on the Fraser Coast.

Instructors are blue card accredited and are nationally recognised by the BJMA, World Kickboxing and World Karate Associations.
